Keep Your Room Clean
Cleaning your room is something your parents always tell you to do, so you may think of it as yet another household chore. But cleaning your room is far from a typical chore, it’s actually an important part of self-discipline and respect. If you think about it, you’re in your room more than anyone else, so you’re the one making the mess!
When you go to your martial arts practice and take out equipment, don’t you put it away after you’re done using it? It may not be a mess, but it helps keep the practice area clear and orderly. Cleaning up after yourself shows your respect for others, but it also shows your ability to take responsibility for yourself and your self-discipline.
Cleanliness & Self-Discipline
What is self-discipline? It’s when you stop doing what you want to do, so you can do what you need to do, without anyone telling you. This is an important part of becoming an adult, and a well-rounded person. Take a moment to think about something you do without being told. For example, you may go over your martial arts forms and techniques at home.
When you practice martial arts at home, you become better and maintain your skills. If you don’t practice, you may forget and your skills may become poor and sloppy. If you don’t clean your room often, your room may become too dirty. But if you clean your room regularly, the mess is easier to clean. Having self-discipline makes your chores just a little easier, and helps you progress.
Taking Responsibility
So now you may think about why cleaning your room is so important. If no one else is using the room, why do you need to clean it? Maintaining your room is a sign of responsibility and consideration for those around you. Your parent gave you a room, making sure you keep it in the best condition possible shows respect and responsibility.
If you don’t clean your room, someone else will have to clean up your mess, which isn’t fair. Your parents may see your messy room and decide you’re not responsible enough to take care of your things. Taking care of your room and your belongings shows that you value them and understand their importance.
How Does Cleanliness Help You?
Let’s say you have to do a match on a mat that’s filled with equipment. All of that mess may distract you and make it hard to concentrate on your opponent, it can also be dangerous and cause you to trip or make mistakes. Now think about doing homework in a messy room, this also makes it harder to concentrate and focus on your tasks.
By keeping your room clean, there are tons of tasks you make easier! It’s easier to do work, play with your toys, and find anything you’re looking for. An orderly room makes it easier to have an orderly mind, so you can get so much more stuff done. Remember, cleaning your room isn’t just a chore, it’s something you do for yourself, your family, and your guests!
